HOW TO GET TO MISKOLC?

We are prepared to assist you in organising your travel to Miskolc from Budapest. The form of assistance may vary. Prior consultations via e-mail regarding your travel to Miskolc are inevitable.

In case you do not need assistance you may choose from the following options. Please, let us know about decision in any case.

From Budapest to Miskolc

Airport Shuttle

After landing in Hungary you'll find an Airport Shuttle office in the terminal. We advise you to take an Airport Shuttle to get to the University of Miskolc directly. This is the most convenient way of travelling and it costs approx. 40 EUR. An on-line reservation prior to your travel is highly recommended. (http://www.airportshuttle.hu/)

By train

Another option to travel from Budapest to Miskolc is to travel by train. Take a taxi or an Airport Minibus to get to Keleti Pályaudvar (Eastern Railway Station). Trains leave nearly every hour from Keleti Pályaudvar to Miskolc. Choose an Inter-City (IC) train. You can find the IC timetable and can also buy tickets online at the following web site: https://www.mavcsoport.hu/en. A 2nd class ticket with seat reservation costs approx. EUR 20. You are advised to take an IC train instead of a regular train because ICs are much faster and more comfortable than regular ones.

From Tiszai Railway Station to the University

By taxi

Once you arrived in Miskolc at Tiszai Railway Station, you shall take a taxi to get to the University. It costs approximately 10 EUR.

By public transport

Numbered buses run in all directions across the city, and even beyond the city borders. Another means of transport is the tram (No. 1 and 2), running along the East-West axis of the town.
This is the route guide for how you can get from TISZAI railway station to the university:

take bus 'ME' starting from the station

the bus has a direct connection to the InterCity trains and goes directly to the university

travel time is approximately 20 minutes

get off the bus at the 3rd stop (EGYETEMI KOLLEGIUM)

take Tram Nr. 1 or Nr. 2 starting from the station

get off the tram at the 3rd stop (name of stop: SZINVAPARK). Here you have to  change to the bus. You simply cross the street (in the same direction) to the opposite side where you find the bus stop (in front of a Telenor mobile phone shop). Depending on the day and time when you arrive, you have to choose the right bus:

get on Bus Nr. 12 or 22 (they run on workdays from Monday to Friday between 4.00 am  and 7.00 pm.). Direction: EGYETEMVAROS (this will be displayed at the top  of the bus)

get off at UNI-HOTEL
OR

GOOD TO KNOW – PRACTICAL INFORMATION

The campus is called the “university town” and it is no wonder. As it lies in the outskirts of Miskolc, students do not always have the time for or they simply do not feel like going downtown for different services. This mini town offers all kinds of facilities and services on the spot.

Internet access

In Building A1, two large computer rooms are in operation on the 2nd floor, under the supervision of the University Computer Centre.

In addition, you will also have wifi internet access in your rooms in the hostels.

Internet access is also available in the Central Library and at many other spots around.

Printing & Photocopying

You can find a stationary shop in Building A1, mezzanine. There is also one on the ground floor of Building A1, near the entrance closest to the student hostels. It provides printing and photocopying and also scanning.

In addition, a number of photocopiers are installed at different parts of the university (e.g. in academic blocks and the library).

Shopping

Students are advised to go shopping to the nearby hypermarkets LIDL and TESCO, or go downtown for doing their everyday shopping. There is a small tobacco shop, next to the canteen.

Eat & Drink

The university has a large canteen open Monday – Saturday (lunch hours: 11:00-14:30 Mon-Thu; 11:00-14:00 Fri; 11:00-13:30 Sat). You can choose a fixed menu (2 choices in soups and 3 choices in main dishes are offered) at fixed price (890 HUF), or you can choose from all kinds of hot meals á la carte and pay for them at the cash-desk (~1500 HUF). Prices for the fix menu can be lower if you buy a lunch ticket in advance (full month - 12 occasions, or half month - 6 occasions tickets at the price of 790 HUF/lunch, but they can only be used in the month they were purchased).

There are cafés, buffets, and bakeries in different parts of the university where cold and hot meals, beverages, coffee, tea, cakes, sandwiches, pizza and hamburgers are served. You can also find a few coffee and coke machines all over the campus.

There is a gym equipped for special weight training in student hostel E4, groundfloor, which you can use free of charge 15.00 - 18.00. As it is free of charge, most students like going there, so you have to go to sign up quickly, because later it will be overcrowded.

Sports and games that can be chosen include: Fitness, Aerobics/Zumba, Thai boxing, Karate, Wing tsun kung fu, Basketball, Handball, Volleyball, Tennis, Badminton, Table tennis and American football.

ATM

Unfortunately, there is no bank on the territory of the campus, but you can find several ATMs to get money. For any other financial transactions, you have to go to the city and find a bank (Erste, Raiffeisen, Citibank, UniCredit , etc).

Postal service

The university post-office is at your disposal with all postal services. It is located at the backside of the canteen.

Open hours: Mon – Fri 8.00 – 16.00.

The latest postal charges are on display at the customer’s desk, so you can check what stamps you need. Mailboxes in Hungary are red and emptied daily.

Library

The university operates a library network which includes the Central Library and libraries of the faculties, institutes and departments.  The total stock contains about 600,000 books and 2,663 journals serving around 100,000 users every year.

The Selmec Museum Library stores the complete stock, some 30,000 volumes, from the library of the ancient Alma Mater of Selmecbánya from the years 1735 – 1919. The permanent exhibition displaying a unique collection of the technical publications of the 16th – 19th centuries has thousands of Hungarian and foreign visitors every year paying tribute to the rich technical and scientific heritage of the first technical college of the world, which is the legal predecessor of the University of Miskolc.  The Historical Collection preserves the material relics of education and the life of youth and displays them in a permanent exhibition (“From Selmec to Miskolc, 1735 – 1985”). A number of temporary exhibitions can be visited by the public, too.

Open hours in the reading hall from 1 Sept to 30 June:

Monday  13.00 – 17.00
